Un bon hoben pa un bon famia

ImageOn November 9, 2009 the Rotary Club Willemstad was visited by representatives of Kinderoord Brakkeput and the "Un Bon Hoben Pa Un Bon Famia" Foundation.

Earlier this year RCW's Charities Commission identified an interesting project for the youth in Fuik. Fellow Bill Winkel of the Charities Commission made a strong case for a donation to Majron Maduro for his excellent work with the youth in the Fuik region, in this case making it possible for the Fuik youth to participate in the Seu-parade.

Majron Maduro's work was also recognized by the community since he recently won the "Unsung Hero Award" of Curaçao. So we were very interested in learning more about Majron Maduro and the projects he has initiated.

Finally, on November 9, 2009 after enjoying a deliciouslunch in the Avila Café, the meeting was adjourned as we moved to the Troepiaal Room where our special guests, Rupert Breusers, Majron Maduro and Chris Maduro gave a presentation about the synergies between Kinderoord Brakkeput and the Foundation Un Hoben Pa Un Bon Famia.

First Rupert Breusers gave an explanation about the`Kinderoord Brakkeput and the work they have been doing and the link with Majron's Foundation Un Bon Hoben Pa Un Bon Famia. Rupert also asked Majron togive a little background about his own upbringing. Majron came from a family that lived under difficult social conditions. Majron has spent his youth at the Kinderoord Brakkeput and the GOG (Government's Opvoedings Gesticht) but he did not get discouraged by his difficult upbringing. Indeed, he drew the strength to build a new life. Majron decided to use his experiences to help others.

Now he lives in Seru Grandi and works with the Kinderoord Brakkeput. As a coach/mentor he is involved with after school education/formation for the youth of Fuik, he has a small farm where he teaches children how to plant. There is a brass band that rehearsed with him and then there's the Seu group which was partly sponsored by RCW.

The plans of Rupert and Majron are now to realize a complex with special apartments for the former Kinderoord Brakkeput adolescents for when these adolescents leave Kinderoord Brakkeput or other institutions, that they get proper guidance and do not relapse back into the wrong environment.Chris Maduro explained where they are in the process of creating a finance request to get funding for the project.

The RCW fellows were very impressed with what they have learned. Majron is a very eloquent speaker who can relate to the youth. We are sure we will be hearing more of him in the future.
