Big Rotary Club of Voorschoten-Leidschendam Donation

ImageThe Rotary Club of Voorschoten-Leidschendam made a donation destined to provide post-school activities for the youngsters of Wishi-Marchena.The Wishi-Marchena neighborhood is typified by above average incidence of poverty and single-parent families.

As a result many children are neglected at home and either take to the streets, or become couch potatoes. Either way their physical and intellectual development is stunted by the lack of nourishment for both body and soul.

RCW in attendance at Inter Guyana's Meeting

ImageA small group of fellows from Rotary Club Willemstad (RCW) visited Suriname District 7030 from November 13th - 15th to attend the IGM - Inter Guyana's Meeting, between French Guyana, Suriname and Guyana.

The theme for IGM's 2009 meeting was "CLEAN WATER". Each country had 20 minutes for a country presentation.

RCW supports Training for youngsters

ImageIn the afternoons of September 4, 11 and 18, 2009 the training ‘No Apologies, Wak Bo Kaya' was given to young people (between 10 and 16 years of age) who are attending the post-school programs of Casa Cuna Villa Maria and Sta Rosa.

The same training was given to youngsters attending the post-school program of Un Man pa Hubentud on September 11 (afternoon) and 12 (whole day).

Un bon hoben pa un bon famia

ImageOn November 9, 2009 the Rotary Club Willemstad was visited by representatives of Kinderoord Brakkeput and the "Un Bon Hoben Pa Un Bon Famia" Foundation.

Earlier this year RCW's Charities Commission identified an interesting project for the youth in Fuik. Fellow Bill Winkel of the Charities Commission made a strong case for a donation to Majron Maduro for his excellent work with the youth in the Fuik region, in this case making it possible for the Fuik youth to participate in the Seu-parade.

Majron Maduro's work was also recognized by the community since he recently won the "Unsung Hero Award" of Curaçao. So we were very interested in learning more about Majron Maduro and the projects he has initiated.

Ryan de Jongh: Raising Funds the Hard Way!

ImageOn Monday, November 02, 2009 a young man with a mission called Ryan de Jongh took the floor at the Rotary Club Willemstad meeting. Most of us had heard of Ryan as an incredible kayaker, known for circumventing Curaçao in 2007 in 33 hours. That challenge was but one in a long, and growing, list of trials that Ryan has taken on.

But all previous challenges pale in comparison to his next feat titled the "Clear Water Challenge". Driven by a passion for nature, Ryan explained to all in attendance that he intends to travel by kayak from Saint Martin all the way to Curaçao! Along the way he will make stops along the many islands that line the eastern part of the Caribbean basin.
