Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Paul P. Harris the founder of Rotary organized the first Rotary Club in Chicago, Illinois in 1905. Headquarted in Evanston, Illinois, Rotary International has 1.2 million members in 159 countries, primarily business and professional people dedicated to serving their communities and promoting peace, goodwill, and international understanding. The Clubs’ members engage in more than 35,000 programs each year. Rotary International has held twelve major Peace Forums. Rotary International has non-governmental organizational status at The United Nations and some of its agencies in Geneva and Vienna. It holds an annual program at the United Nations in New York. - Rotary volunteers have journeyed to 60 countries on Rotary missions.
